STRANGE NEIGHBOR RECORDS SET TO RELEASE OSCILLATIONS JULY 20th.
Oscillations features a host of productions and first time collaborations combining the cosmic light of Los Angeles based artists including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Blu, Med, Jimetta Rose, Mndsgn, Teebs and Nia Andrews.
Strange Neighbor is currently setting the stage for the July 2018 release of the star infused Oscillations project. An album born out of LA’s restless cross pollination of future soul, jazz, hip hop and electronica, Oscillations features a host of productions and first time collaborations combining the cosmic light of Los Angeles based artists including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Blu, Med, Jimetta Rose, Mndsgn, Teebs and Nia Andrews.
Dizz1, dominates production on the Oscillations A side with his refined, loose but heavy hip hop production igniting the forever inspired vocal and mc talents of Georgia Anne Muldrow (Brainfeeder), Jimetta Rose (Temporary Forever) and the OG’s Blu and MED (Stones Throw.) On the heels of Blu’s sell out ‘Beyond the Heavens’ anniversary tour across the US, he delivers the Oscillations opening track, a rattlesnake of a rhyme about the LA experience, with the multi-dimentional genius of Georgia Ann Muldrow flowing on top. Two of our other favourites from the LA hip hop community MED and Jimetta Rose take a break from their other label involvements (MED‘s Bang Your Head label and The Bad Neighbor project on Stones Throw, Jimetta’s recent Muldrow produced album on Busdriver’s Temporary Forever label) to offer up a banging club track ‘Hard to Breathe.’
Raised in Philadelphia and now based in Los Angeles, Swarvy has had a huge year with the success of the full length collaborative album with Lojii, Duerent (Fresh Selects) as well as additional album releases on Paxico Records, Matthewdavid’s Leaving Records and the House Shoes run Street Corner Music. Swarvy is an arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist who deserves every one of the comparisons to Madlib he often gets. Displaying the kind of musical depth that had Swarvy singled out in the first place and kicking off the Oscillations B-side, ‘So Bad’ is a masterfully arranged gospel flavored slice of soul featuring the one man choir known as Clark and the Community. Moving straight on to jazzier territory Swarvy is joined by Mndsgn on drums, and the perfectly encapsulated singer/ songwriter/ performer talents of Nia Andrews for ‘A song About Timing.’ The perfect triangulation of Mndsgn’s patent rhythm purpose, Swarvy’s live bass groove and Nia’s fully realised jazz songwriting. Picking up on Swarvy’s beat tape and hip hop tendencies, ‘Zhen’ an unheard track born from his sessions with Lojii, reminds us of some of the other mostvital abstract hip hop around at the moment so no surprise really that Lojii is straight out of the same unit that has brought us Zeroh and Jeremiah Jae.
Closing the Oscillations release, none other than original Brainfeeder crew member, Teebs, brings us another of his unmatchable textural, cinematic instrumentals. The long awaited next album from Teebs is about to drop on Brainfeeder in the next few months.
